This time, a female stand-up comedian, Vidushi Swaroop, has embroiled herself in controversy and is facing backlash for her comments on prostitution in a viral video from one of her live performances.

In a video clip, Vidushi Swaroop referred to prostitution as a “trendy profession” and discussed its unique characteristics that distinguish it from other occupations. These remarks swiftly triggered widespread outrage online, with the majority condemning them as “insensitive.”

The stand-up comedian shared the video on her YouTube channel with the topic ‘prostitution stand-up comedy by Vidushi Swaroop. Since being shared the clip has accumulated thousands of views. Netizens started trolling the comedian for her controversial remarks in the video.

“Respect women always. This is no way to present women. Shameful act,” a person wrote on X.

“Unfortunately, some self-proclaimed stand-up comedians make comments that some find amusing, whether it’s related to religion or other sensitive topics. They often think they’re being funny, and the audience laughs along, considering it cool,” another YouTube user commented.

Poet Kumar Vishwas also joined the backlash club and voiced his strong disapproval on X (formerly Twitter), “This is not just absurd, but it’s also inhuman and cruel. Such an insensitive joke is merely a reflection of today’s so-called stand-up performances, which often mock moral and cultural values. It’s fortunate that no male presenter engaged in this distasteful act; otherwise, it would have sparked outrage. Those who found it amusing should be ashamed,” he wrote on X.

However, some netizens also came in support for Vidushi as well. One user expressed his views and defended the comedian by suggesting, “The purpose of comedy is to show the mirror to society. You shocked us and made us laugh at the same time. Well done.”

“Addressing society’s issues with comedy, few can do it and you killed it,” wrote another.

Amid the mounting mounting controversy and intensifying backlash, the stand-up comedian took to Instagram to address the situation.

She posted Kumar Vishwas’s comment and wrote that the chunk of the video does not reflect the actual perspective of the entire video.

“This video is taken from a full YouTube video, so it does not reflect the actual perspective of the clip. Therefore, I have a humble request to all of you: before making your decision, please evaluate the entire video once.”
