Meet Pragya Misra, The 39-year-old Podcaster, The First Employee Hired in OpenAI India Team

ChatGPT developer OpenAI hired Pragya Misra as its first employee in India. The 39-year-old has been appointed as the head of government relations. According to a Bloomberg report, ” The hiring highlights the generative-AI company’s efforts to push for favourable rules as governments around the world consider how to regulate the rapidly developing technology.” Her role involves managing the intersection of technology, policy and governance. She will play an important role in shaping OpenAI’s engagement with Indian government bodies and stakeholders.

Pragya Misra’s Background And Role

Prior to joining OpenAI, Pragya was associated with Truecaller, where she served as the Director of Public Affairs since July 2021. Her responsibilities involved working closely with government ministries, investors, key stakeholders, and media partners. Misra’s journey in the tech industry began when she joined Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook) in 2018, where she took upon the leadership of Whatsapp’s campaign against misinformation. Notably, she was the first employee in WhatsApp India, as reported by FirstPost.

Pragya Misra’s Education Qualification

Pragya holds an MBA from the International Management Institute, which she completed in 2012. Her academic journey also includes studying at the London School of Economics and Politcal Science, where she pursued a Diploma in Bargaining and Negotiations. She is a commerce graduate from the University of Delhi.

Podcaster And Golfer

Beyond her professional achievements, Pragya wears multiple hats. She hosts the Pragyaan Podcast, where she engages with guests on different topics, including meditation and consciousness. Interestingly, she is also an avid golfer who has represented India in several international tournaments between 1998 and 2007.
