Delhi Crime: A 26-year-old man was dragged out of his house in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar locality and mercilessly beaten to death with sticks and kicks to the gut, the Delhi Police said Sunday. Two persons have been arrested, while a juvenile has been detained in connection with the fatal assault which took place on Saturday evening, officials said.
They victim, Karan, was dragged out of the house by the attackers on Saturday evening and viciously thrashed, resulting in his death, a family member said.
“The accused first hit him with sticks mercilessly and kicked him. They jumped on his chest when he was gasping for life and fled,” the family member told reporters.
Police said the reason behind the assault is being ascertained but preliminary investigation suggests pre-existing enmity between the victim and the accused men, which eventually boiled over into Saturday’s fatal attack.
Notably, the investigation also discovered that the deceased, Karan, was involved in as many as 10 criminal cases, they said.
“A PCR call was received on Saturday regarding a man who received serious injuries after he was thrashed,” a senior police officer said. When the police reached the spot, the PCR team had already taken Karan to Safdarjung Hospital.
Karan was declared dead on arrival, he said.
Following this, the police registered a case under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code against the three accused and arrested them, police said. Efforts are underway to arrest the remaining accused as well, they said, adding that further investigation in the case is underway.
