NEET PG Exam 2024 Postponed As “Precautionary Measure”: FORDA, UDFA, ABVP, JNUSU, FAIMA Condemns Health Ministry Decision

New Delhi: Following the postponement of the NEET PG exam 2024, several organizations, including FORDA, ABVP, JNUSU, and FAIMA, have voiced their criticism. ABVP General Secretary Yagyawalkya Shukla demanded explanations from both the government and the National Board of Education regarding the sudden postponement of the exam just hours before it was due to be conducted on June 23 morning. Sharing a self-made video, ABVP General Secretary Yagyawalkya Shukla said,” If the National Board of Examination or the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had any kind of suspicion, they should have brought forth everything in front of candidates with full transparency… Student bodies demand the government and the National Board of Education that the students have the right to know the reasons and circumstances behind the step.”

Earlier on Saturday, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare postponed the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET PG) Examination, which was scheduled to be held on Sunday(June 23). A fresh examination date will be announced at the earliest.

“Taking into consideration, the recent incidents of allegations regarding the integrity of certain competitive examinations, the Ministry of Health has decided to undertake a thorough assessment of the robustness of the processes of the NEET-PG Entrance Examination, conducted by the National Board of Examination for medical students,” reads the ministry statement. “It has accordingly been decided, as a precautionary measure to postpone the NEET-PG Entrance Examination, scheduled to be held tomorrow i.e. 23rd June 2024”, the Health Ministry further said.

India’s medical education system has been “destroyed”: United Doctors Front Association

United Doctors Front Association National President Dr Lakshya Mittal on Saturday said that cancelling the scheduled exam before 10 hours is no less than “playing with the emotions of the doctors” adding that India’s medical education system has been “destroyed”. “NEET-PG exam, which was supposed to be held tomorrow, has been cancelled at the last moment… Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, in its press release, has mentioned that the exam has been postponed seeing its integrity and sensitivity… This is another scam after NEET-UG… Candidates have travelled across states and cancelling the exam 10 hours before it is scheduled is no less than playing with the emotions of the doctors,” Mittal told news agency ANI. “The conducting authorities of both- NEET PG, as well as NEET UG, should be investigated… India’s medical education system has been destroyed… CBI enquiry into the NEET-UG issue is a commendable step,” he further added.

This government has failed students on so many levels: JNUSU President Dhananjay

On the postponement of the NEET-PG exam, JNUSU President Dhananjay said that the government has failed students on multiple fronts. “Students travel across cities to sit for this exam. This government has failed students on so many levels,” he said.

The last-minute cancellation of the NEET-PG examination is very sad for all of us: FAIMA

FAIMA Doctors Association President Dr Rohan Krishnan said that the association stands with the students. “The last-minute cancellation of the NEET-PG examination is very sad for all of us… All the candidates had reached their examination centres in various cities… I hope that the National Board of Examinations had concrete reasons to postpone this examination and they should come up with immediate answers. I request the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to come forward and tell me what was the reason for postponing the exam?… I want to assure the students that we stand with them and we will make sure that the next date is given with ample time,” Krishnan said.

Horrible !! Disaster !!: FORDA on NEET PG Postponement

Sharing a post on X, FORDA wrote, “Horrible !! Disaster !! Rumours or truth !! Both ways: “SHAME” Sympathies to all aspirants !!/ It’s true- #NEET PG has indeed been postponed- Through official sources. Such a sad moment for medical education realm in India.”

NEET-PG is the single eligibility cum entrance examination for admission to MD/MS/PG Diploma Courses for the academic session 2024-25. The exam comprises of 200 multiple choice questions with each question having 4 response options/ distractors in English language only.
