The Zhuhai Airshow 2024, which kicked off on November 12, has witnessed some of the latest and arguably, greatest, in next generation of fighter jets by China and its allies like Russia, however, the star of the show so far, has undoubtedly been China’s futuristic 6th-generation fighter jet which can fly at supersonic speeds and even drop bombs and munitions from space.
China’s ‘White Emperor’ supersonic fighter jet
Developed by the Aviation Industry Corporation of China, an aerospace and defense conglomerate owned by the Chinese government, the “Baidi” or “White Emperor” fighter jet is a sleek and futuristic bleeding-edge warplane, which, China claims, has the ability to break through the Earth’s atmosphere and can operate in space.
The Baidi jet, part of China’s ambitious Project Nantianmen, a research initiative to explore future aerospace technologies, has been conceived as an “integrated space-air fighter,”, boasting the capability of supersonic flight which allows its to break through Earth’s atmosphere and operate in space, as per information given at the Zhuhai air show.
Although, there is no information about the jet’s specification, but some key insights are offered by its placard, which states that the fighter aircraft features an expanded internal weapons bay to house heavy air-to-ground munitions, a clear indication that its being readied for combat use.
“The Baidi Type B fighter has also received a comprehensive avionics upgrade, enhancing cockpit ergonomics and simplifying maintenance procedures, which effectively boosts its deployment capability and operational efficiency,” it states.

Apart from its supersonic flight and advanced combat capabilities, the Baidi fighter jet has a sleek, futuristic design, which offers a glimpse into China’s future plans to build an advanced air force.
Another notable feature is the Baidi’s cockpit, which has been described as “extremely spacious” and features a “futuristic” canopy. However, despite China’s claims about their shiny new sixth-generation warplane, military observers remain skeptical, noting that while the fighter is undoubtedly an “exciting concept”, its true capabilities are still an uncertain and untested entity.
Yet, China’s unveiling of the the Baidi supersonic jet has without a doubt, raised concerns for its rivals, especially the United States, its allies, as well as to some extent, India, as the red nation moves to become an ultra-modern military force.
