New Delhi: Right now, the world is witnessing two big armed conflicts. One in the Middle East region and another in Europe, the war between Russia and Ukraine or the Russia-Ukraine war.
The Russia-Ukraine war is proving to be an uncertain one as Russian president has in all earnestness made it clear that in case any nuclear power state supplies any weapons to target Russia, it will respond with manifold intensity, including the nuclear weapons.
In such a scenario, the whole world is waiting with bated breath, wondering what the scenario will be if a nuclear weapon is detonated. How will it manifest itself, who will be most likely to suffer the most, who will remain safe, etc.?
According to research, nuclear war would not only cause widespread death through radiation, heat, blast effects, drastic changes in the atmosphere, and unusual weather that will disrupt the ecosystem, resulting in the death of about 7 billion people worldwide, mainly due to starvation.
According to a recent study published in Nature Food, places that could avoid mass starvation are countries including Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Australia, Iceland, and Oman due to their ability to support food consumption in a post-war environment.
The regions at the highest risk of starvation include a majority of the countries including the United States, Canada, much of Europe, and Russia.
Starvation is a big concern, but the immediate threat would be from the blast itself. The study says that the best place to shelter in a building is in a sturdy room, as far from doors and windows as possible, ideally in a corner.
Places likely to be most safe
Antarctica, Iceland, New Zealand, Switzerland, Greenland, Indonesia, and Tuvalu.
