Viral news: Former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja has been in the news recently as he has been declared the next Jam Saheb of Nawanagar, also known as Jamnagar the princely state in Gujarat. Jadeja has played 15 test matches for India from 1992 to 2000, scoring 576 runs at 26.18 with four half-centuries to his name and a best of 96. Speaking of his professional career, 53-year-old Jadeja has also represented India in 196 One Day Internationals (ODIs) during the period, having scored 5359 runs at 37.47 with 6 hundred and 30 fifties to his name in the format.

Ajay Jadeja’s net worth has skyrocketed to over Rs 1,400 crores, making him one of the wealthiest cricketers in India. Along with this newfound wealth, he has also inherited several ancestral properties of the royal family. At one point, the Jamnagar royal family owned the famous Toussaint necklace, a symbol of their opulence.

In 1931, Nawab Ranjitsinghji Jadeja commissioned the creation of the Toussaint necklace, a luxurious piece of jewelry featuring the Queen of Holland diamond at its center. The necklace was designed by the prestigious jewelry house Cartier and named after Jeanne Toussaint, the director of Cartier, who drew inspiration from Mughal and other royal Indian jewelry. Toussaint was also a key figure in the Art Deco movement. In 1960, the necklace was broken, and it no longer exists in its original form. According to The Week, the Toussaint necklace featured the impressive 136.25-carat “Queen of Holland” diamond as its centerpiece.

According to Navbharat Times, the Toussaint necklace was a magnificent piece featuring strands of large white diamonds, with pink diamonds serving as links between them. The necklace included three additional pink diamonds, along with a 26-carat blue diamond and a 12-carat green diamond. At its center hung the “Queen of Holland” diamond, a blue diamond weighing 136.25 carats, considered one of the world’s largest and most renowned diamonds at the time. According to the media reports, the current estimated value of the Toussaint necklace is around Rs 12,650,000,000.

The Toussaint necklace, completed in 1933 the year of Ranjitsinhji’s death, was worn by his nephew and successor, Digvijaysinhji Jadeja. However, in 1960, the necklace was dismantled, and Cartier purchased the Queen of Holland diamond as an independent piece. In 1978, the diamond was sold to William Goldberg, who had it further cut down to 135.92 carats.

The MAP Academy said about the necklace, “At its centre, there were three pink diamonds, along with a 26-carat blue and a 12-carat green diamond. Its central pendant stone was the bluish Queen of Holland, then weighing 136.25 carats and considered one of the largest diamonds in the world.”

The Queen of Holland diamond’s origin remains uncertain, with competing theories due to its unique characteristics and journey. “Its appearance in Amsterdam, Netherlands, recorded in 1904, would indicate South African origin given the large number of diamonds making their way into the country from South Africa at the time. Yet its bluish tint, characteristic of Golconda diamonds, has led experts to suggest that it originated in the Deccan region of India.” MAP Academy reported.

Named in honor of Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands (who ruled from 1890 to 1948), this remarkable diamond was cut into a cushion shape by the Dutch firm F. Friedman & Co. in the early 20th century. Ranjitsinhji, known for his passion for rare gems as well as his cricket legacy, purchased this diamond in 1930 from Friedman & Co. In 1931, he entrusted Cartier with transforming the stone into the centerpiece of the now-iconic Toussaint necklace.
