All about the man behind Delhi’s hugely popular UPSC Chaat Bhandar which opened in…

Prabhu, also known as UPSC Chaat Bhandar, has been offering mouth-watering chaats in the national capital since 1935 to both locals and visitors. Chaat lovers flock to this place to enjoy its delicious and unmatched flavors. It has become a favorite destination for food enthusiasts.

Prabhu Chaat Bhandar is located opposite the UPSC building, which is why it is popularly known as ‘UPSC Chaat.’ Nathu Laal, a street vendor, established Prabhu Chaat in 1935 during the British Raj. Over the past eight decades, this Chaat Bhandar has kept its original recipe intact, and people continue to visit from all parts of the capital to enjoy its unique taste.

Nathu Laal struggled to operate his chaat stall during the British Raj, as he was fined several times by the police. However, he didn’t give up and continued running his stall at the same location. After Independence, he successfully ran the business as it was his only source of income.

He had witnessed a huge success and soon he came under the bracket of Income Tax which was unique for a street vendor stall.

Today, Nathu Laal’s sons and grandsons are running the business. To keep up with inflation, the prices of chaat have risen, but the taste of UPSC Chaat remains unchanged. Over the years, even celebrities like Rajesh Khanna and Manoj Kumar have visited the stall. Beside Aloo Tikki , the menu includes Bharwa Gol Gappa, Bhalla Papdi, and Kulfi Falooda.
