Playback singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya, who is renowned for lending voice to Bollywood superstars recently sparked controversy with his remarks on Mahatma Gandhi. The singer called the Indian freedom fighter the “Father of Pakistan” during a podcast discussion. While reflecting on legendary music composer R.D. Burman, Bhattacharya drew comparisons between Burman and Gandhi.

Speaking to journalist Shubhankar Mishra, Abhijeet Bhattacharya said, “Pancham Da was bigger than Mahatma Gandhi. Like Mahatma Gandhi was the father of the nation, Pancham Da was the father of the nation in the world of music.”
The singer further elaborated his views by saying, “Mahatma Gandhi was not the father of the nation of India; he was Pakistan’s Father of India. India was always there, but Pakistan was created. By mistake, Mahatma Gandhi was called the Father of Our Nation.”
Abhijeet Bhattacharya began his career with a duet alongside veteran singer Asha Bhosle in a Bengali film, launched by the legendary R.D. Burman. Early on, he also performed in stage shows as a singer with R.D Burman. Over the years, Abhijeet lent his voice to numerous Bollywood actors including Mithun Chakrabarty, Vijay Anand, Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Sunny Deol, Sanjay Dutt, Govinda, Akshaye Khanna, Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty, Ajay Devgan, Hrithik Roshan, Ranbir Kapoor, Chandrachur Singh, Bobby Deol, Jitendra Kumar and Jimmy Shergill.
In 1992, he rose to fame with the film Khiladi, delivering memorable songs like Waada Raha Sanam, Khud Ko Kya Samajhti Hai, Kya Khabar Thi Jaana composed by Jatin-Lalit. This marked the beginning of a series of his massive hits in the 90s.
