IIT-JEE success story: IIT-JEE is arguably one of the toughest examinations in India with thousands of students from across the country taking the test each year to get an admission into a prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). However, only the very best of minds are actually able to crack the test and a select few, the proverbial cream of the crop, emerge as toppers.
One such individual is Ved Lahoti, a Madhya Pradesh native who scored 355/360 marks in IIT Delhi Zone, the highest-ever in Joint Entrance Examination(JEE) Advanced exams.
Who is Ved Lahoti?
Hailing from Madhya Pradesh’s Indore, Ved Lahoti is the son of Yogesh Lahoti, a construction manager at billionaire Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio, while his mother, Jaya Lahoti, is a homemaker, and a source of inspiration for her son.
Growing up, Ved Lahoti was a brilliant student since his early days, scoring an impressive 98.6% in Class 10th, and 97.6% in Class 12th board examination.
Even before his stellar accolades in later years, Ved earned international recognition during his early school years, when he ranked second in the International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO) in both Classes 5 and 6, and in Class 8, won a gold medal at the International Junior Science Olympiad.
Highest-ever marks in JEE-Advanced
After finishing his schooling, Ved Lahoti started preparing for IIT-JEE examination, and aced the JEE-Mains 2024 with an All India Rank (AIR) of 119, securing 295 out of 300 marks. However, his crowning glory came a few months later, when he emerged as the topper in the JEE-Advanced examination, scoring a record-breaking 355 out of 360 marks, beating the previous high of 352/360, set in 2022.
In an interview with news agency ANI, Ved Lahoti attributed his remarkable academic success to his decision to avoid social media, which he believes is a major distraction for anyone preparing for a competitive exam. Ved revealed that though he received IIT-JEE coaching in Rajasthan’s coaching hub, Kota, his main focus always remained on self-study, which he says contributed majorly to his success.
“I devoted three to four hours for self-study daily and scored 332-340 in routine tests regularly. So, I was confident. Since the paper was a bit easy as compared to the test papers, I succeeded,” PTI quoted Lahoti as saying.
Ved Lahoti further revealed that he disengaged from social media while he was preparing for IIT-JEE Advanced in Kota for two years. “I scored very low in one of the routine tests but I did not get disappointed and instead focused on my weak aspects,” he said.
‘A miracle’
Speaking to news agency PTI, Lahoti’s father, Yogesh Lahoti, termed his son’s success a “miracle”, but maintained that he always knew Ved was a unique talent since his childhood.
“It is just like a miracle that my son has scored the highest ever marks in the history of JEE-Advanced. I was expecting this as my son has been very talented since childhood and that’s why we named his Ved after Ved Vyas,” said Yogesh.
