Dhaka: Bangladesh has urged the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to lift the visa ban on its citizens and increase the recruitment of Bangladeshi workers. Meanwhile, the UAE has proposed to establish an industrial park for UAE businesses in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh is now working to enhance trade with the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus has held several meetings with UAE government ministers and businessmen, during which major issues were discussed that will provide significant economic benefits to Bangladesh. Promises have been made ranging from establishing an industrial park for Emirati businesses to creating a hub for halal product manufacturing.

According to the Dhaka Tribune, Mohammad Yunus’s Deputy Press Secretary Abdul Kalam Azad Majumdar stated that the Chief Advisor has urged for the lifting of the visa ban on Bangladeshis and an increase in the recruitment of Bangladeshi workers. Emirati companies have also been invited to set up factories in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus was on a visit to the UAE. On the last day of his trip, Friday (February 14, 2025), he met with UAE officials and businessmen. Mohammad Yunus had arrived in Dubai to participate in the World Governments Summit.

Apart from the summit, Mohammad Yunus met with several ministers from the UAE. Abdul Kalam Majumdar stated that the meeting specifically discussed lifting visa restrictions and increasing trade. Additionally, there was discussion on deepening sports and educational relations. Major companies from the UAE are planning to invest in the Chittagong port of Bangladesh. During this time, the UAE proposed to establish an industrial park in Bangladesh, to which Mohammad Yunus agreed.

Abdul Kalam Majumdar mentioned that during the meeting with UAE’s Trade Minister Thani bin Ahmed Al Jeyoudi, Mohammad Yunus approved the proposal to create an industrial park in Bangladesh for UAE businesses. Meanwhile, the UAE has talked about making Bangladesh a hub for halal product manufacturing. Abdul Kalam Majumdar noted that this was discussed with Mohammad Yunus, and Ahmed Al Jeyoudi told Yunus that the UAE could use Bangladesh’s low-cost labour to make their country a halal product manufacturing hub.
