Who does not enjoy a good suspense thriller that keeps you on the edge? If you are someone who loves this mystery genre, you would know the importance of jaw dropping moments, and how crucial is the unpredictability of a story. This 2 hour 2 minute long Hindi film falls under this category. Rats being killed, guns being shot, the rural-urban rawness of the city in the backdrop adds layer to this movie. It was a low-budget movie with no hero and made in a round Rs 8 crores.

It is set in the vintage grace of the city of joy, Kolkata. Helmed by one of the most talented actors in the industry, the film is titled ‘Kahaani’.

Low Budget Film With a Sequel

This Vidya Balan movie was a sleeper hit. A sleeper hit is a film that starts slow but eventually makes a mark at the bx office. It reportedly earned around Rs 104 crores. It is a 2012 release directed by Sujoy Ghosh. The movie features Parambrata Chatterjee and Nawazuddin Siddiqui as pivotal character to the film.

The plot centres around a pregnant woman (Vidya Bagchi) who comes to Kolkata to retrace the killing of her husband and get the much needed justice. You would think that now you have predicted the film, but will be surprised by the twists and amazing acting of all characters.

Is This a True Story?

Two remakes of Kahaani were released in 2014: a Telugu remake titled Anaamika, and its Tamil version Nee Enge En Anbe, both directed by Sekhar Kammula and featuring Nayanthara as the lead characters The three times National Award winning film is not based on true events but a work of fiction. However, it is loosely inspired by experience of writer Advaita Kala from her brief stay at Kolkata in 1999.
