New Delhi: Chennai Super Kings’ captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has stated that their upcoming match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru is the second-most anticipated rivalry, following the Mumbai Indians clash.
Gaikwad was speaking exclusively on JioStar’s “Star Nahi Far” program and spoke of his bond with fellow captain Rajat Patidar with whom he is friends. “Really looking forward to playing against RCB, especially with Rajat (Patidar) as the new captain. Immediately when they announced Rajat as the captain, I messaged him and wished him good luck. We have been friends for a while now, we know each other really well, and obviously, RCB has been one of the strongest teams. They have done really well every year now,” Gaikwad said.
Both teams, known for their devoted fanbases and iconic leaders MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, have now entrusted the captaincy to young Indian players. CSK triumphed over Mumbai by 4 wickets in their opener, while RCB secured a 7-wicket victory over KKR.
Gaikwad added he was looking forward to playing against Kohli. “Whenever Virat Kohli is in the opposition, whenever he is playing, it is always a clash to look forward to. He’s been doing it for a really long time now, consistently for RCB and for the country as well. So, it is always a great match, and after Mumbai Indians, this is the second match we always look forward to,” Gaikwad added of the Chepauk fixture.
The yellow army is anticipated to turn up in full spirit, with their iconic whistles echoing, as CSK aim to push their head-to-head record to 4-2. Currently, the tally stands at 3-2, with CSK having lost the most recent encounter by 27 runs. The closest contest between the two sides came in 2023, when CSK triumphed by a narrow 8-run margin, though the home team will miss Matheesha Pathirana due to injury.
