UPSC Success Story: The UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) is arguably the toughest recruitment test in the country, and each year, aspirants who have sacrificed their time, money, and even flourishing careers in other fields, enter the formidable examination to achieve their dream of joining civil services.

One such shining example is IPS Archit Chandak, an IITian from Nagpur who turned down a high-paying corporate job offer, and aced the UPSC CSE to become and IPS officer.

Who is IPS Archit Chandak?

Born in Shankar Nagar, Nagpur in Maharashtra, Archit Chandak excelled in academics from an early age and aced JEE 2012 to secure admission into the prestigious IIT Delhi after completing his schooling at the Bhavan’s BP Vidya Mandir in his hometown.

While pursuing a BTech degree in Mechanical Engineering at IIT Delhi, Archit developed his passion for joining civil services and serve the nation and its people, instead of taking up a mundane, yet well-paying, corporate job. According to reports, Archit Chandak had received a job offer with an annual salary package of Rs 35 lakh while interning for a Japanese company.

However, he turned down the lucrative offer and instead focused of cracking the UPSC CSE, and ultimately achieved success in his very first attempt in 2018 when he aced the examination, securing an impressive All India Rank (AIR) of 184.  Currently, the inspirational IPS officer is posted as the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Traffic in his home district of Nagpur.

Beyond his UPSC success, Archit Chandak is also an accomplished chess player, boasting a Fide rating of 1,820. The IPS officer also has a passion for fitness, and has completed 42km Mumbai Marathon.

Archit Chandak is married to IAS Saumya Sharma, his UPSC batchmate, who is currently posted as the CEO of Smart City Nagpur.
