Shilpa’s major breakthrough came when she featured in the 1990 blockbuster Kishen Kanhaiya, in which she starred alongside Anil Kapoor. Despite her initial success, Shilpa’s career hit a rough patch with several box office failures, including Bandish and Bewafa Sanam.
Shilpa Shirodkar was Rejected in Shah Rukh Khan’s Song
Yes, Shilpa was the first choice for Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic song Chaiyya Chaiyya. However, the song was eventually given to Malaika Arora. The reason for the replacement, as revealed by Shilpa herself, was that the filmmakers found her to be “too fat” for the song. Farah Khan, the choreographer, also confirmed this.
When Shilpa Left Bollywood And Became…
When Shilpa tied the knot, she left acting, and this was the time when she was at the peak of her career. In a recent appearance on Gauahar Khan’s podcast MaaaNoranjan, Shilpa opened up about her life after quitting acting. She said, “To keep myself busy, I did a hairdressing course in New Zealand. It was something close to my acting career—with makeup and all that. After the course, I worked in a salon for two months.”
“We were newly married, and the hairdresser job was very demanding. He (husband Aparesh Ranjit) used to get his offs on weekends, and I was expected to work on those same days. We needed time to get to know each other, and I felt like this wasn’t working for me,” she admitted.
