Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway Greenfield Project: In a matter of good news for the travelers of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, the Gorakhpur–Siliguri Expressway project has picked up speed after slowing down during the recent elections. In an important update, this important six-lane highway is expected to greatly improve travel and transport across Bihar. Modernising the state’s road network and help connect remote areas more easily, the Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway Greenfield project is expected to boost the connectivity by manifolds.

The expressway will pass through 56 villages and link eight zones of East Champaran district. In order to move the project forward, the administration has begun fast-tracking the acquisition of 491.12 hectares of land. As per media reports, the officials have stated that the land acquisition process is likely to remain smooth since this is a fully greenfield project. Also, a bridge will also be constructed over the Gandak River to strengthen connectivity.
Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway: Route details
The 520-kilometre-long expressway will pass through eight districts, including West Champaran, East Champaran, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria and Kishanganj. It will connect 39 blocks and 313 villages across the state. The project will cost around Rs 32,000 crore and will allow vehicles to travel at speeds of up to 120 km per hour.
Road Construction Minister Nitin Naveen has thanked the Central Government for approving the project. The minister has said the expressway will play a major role in improving Bihar’s transport system and increasing the total length of national highways in the state.
District Land Acquisition Officer Vikas Kumar confirmed that progress had slowed due to assembly elections, but administrative work has now resumed and land acquisition will start after a five-member committee completes its inspection.
“The project’s progress had slowed due to the assembly elections. Land acquisition for this project has been expedited. Land acquisition will begin after a five-member committee inspects and meets”, District Land Acquisition Officer has said in his statement quoted by India TV.
