The speeds of 5G and 6G are so fast that you can download a film in minutes. It is claimed that 5G offers speeds of 1 Gbps, while 6G could provide speeds of up to 10 Gbps. But, can you imagine an internet speed of 100 Gbps. Yes, Nokia is testing a technology that could make 100 Gbps internet speeds possible.
The internet speed will be so fast that you’ll be able to download 100 files of 1GB each in a second. Nokia has tested this technology in collaboration with Italy’s Open Fiber. At Open Fiber’s headquarters, Nokia successfully tested the Passive Optical Network (PON). Currently, Open Fibre is offering internet speed of 10 Gbps through Optical fibre.
The speciality of PON is that there is no need to change infrastructure to get an internet speed of 100 Gbps. Through Nokia’s present technology, internet speed of 100 Gbps can be provided to the users. Open Fibre is Europe’s first telecom operator that can provide internet speed of 100 Gbps. In wake of rising demand for commercial data, this technology could be a gamechanger.
During the testing of Nokia’s PON technology, internet speeds of 10 Gbps, 25 Gbps, 50 Gbps, and 100 Gbps were achieved. This technology will help deliver solutions in healthcare, industrial applications, and cloud computing.
