Baghban is an emotional story of an elderly couple, portrayed by Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini, who have been married for 40 years. After Amitabh Bachchan’s character retires, they gather with their four sons to discuss who will take care of them. However, none of the sons are willing to look after both parents, which causes both of them to live separately. The film struck a chord with audiences, and makers revealed that many people got immensely attached to the film.
Interestingly, Baghban had not an impressive start at the box office. According to reports, the film struggled to make earnings, had no audience for four days and was initially declared a flop. However, after the positive word-of-mouth, the film earned both critical and commercial acclaim with 175-day run in theatres.
Baghban eventually became a commercial success, earning approximately Rs 43.11 crore worldwide against a production cost of Rs 10 core. While it did face competition from other releases, but it eventually outperformed them, becoming one of the highest-grossing films of the year.
Apart from Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini, the film also starred Aman Verma, Samir Soni, Saahil Chaddha, and Nasir Khan as sons. Baghban also saw Salman Khan and Mahima Chaudhry in cameo appearances.
